What to Wear Under a Wedding Guest Dress
You found the dress. Now the question is what goes under it. The right answer depends on the neckline and the back, not the dress itself. Here's a quick guide for wedding guests and bridesmaids.
V-neck or plunge
If the neckline looks empty or gapes, use adhesive push-up inserts inside your bra or the dress's built-in cups. They lift and add up to 2 cup sizes, and the double-sided adhesive keeps them from shifting during the first dance.
Backless, low back or halter
You need something with no back and no straps: a sticky bra. Apply it to clean, dry skin before you get dressed, then clasp in front for shape.
Strapless or off-shoulder
A strapless bra works if you're fine with a band. If it tends to slide down, switch to a sticky bra. Nothing to hitch up during photos.
Bridesmaid dresses
Bridesmaid dresses are cut for one shape and worn by several people. Inserts matched to each person's bra size help the same dress fit everyone. Each bridesmaid checks her own size in the size guide.
Outdoor and summer weddings
Heat and dancing mean sweat. Pick sweat and water-resistant adhesive, skip lotion on your chest, and pack a spare in your bag.
Quick checklist
- Try everything on with the dress a week before
- No lotion or oil on your chest on the day
- Do an arms-up, bend-forward check before you leave
- Pack a spare pair of inserts
