How to Wear a Sticky Bra So It Stays On All Night
A sticky bra is the easiest way to wear a backless, strapless or halter outfit without a single strap showing. It's also the easiest thing to get wrong. Almost every "it fell off" story comes down to skin prep or placement, not the bra. Here is how to put one on so it holds all night.
What you need
- A sticky bra in the right size for your bra size (check the Veluna size guide)
- Clean, completely dry skin
- Two minutes before you get dressed
Step 1: Prep your skin
Adhesive grips skin, not lotion. Shower, dry off fully, and skip body lotion, oil, shimmer, self-tan and deodorant on your chest that day. If you've already moisturized, wipe the area with a damp cloth and let it air dry. This one step is the difference between an hour and a whole night.
Step 2: Peel and angle each cup
Peel the cover film off one cup. Hold it at a slight upward angle, with the bottom edge lower than the top and the clasp side pointing toward the center of your chest. Place it on the outer, lower half of your bust and smooth it from the center outward.
Step 3: Press for a few seconds
Press the whole cup with your palm for three to five seconds. Body heat warms the adhesive and helps it grip. Repeat on the other side, matching the angle and height.
Step 4: Clasp for shape
Hook the front clasp. The more you pull the cups toward each other before clasping, the more lift and cleavage you get. Veluna Pop Up uses a front clasp so you get a centered, lifted shape instead of two separate circles.
Step 5: Do the check
Raise your arms, bend forward and do a small jump. If an edge lifts, peel that cup, check for lotion, and reapply. Then put the outfit on and forget it's there.
How to take a sticky bra off
Unclasp first, then peel each cup slowly from the top edge downward, holding your skin with the other hand. Don't rip it off. If it's stubborn, a little warm water loosens the adhesive.
Common mistakes
- Wrong size. A cup that's too big overshoots and the edge lifts. Sticky bra sizes don't always match your bra tag, so use a size chart.
- Applying after lotion. The top reason sticky bras slide.
- Placing it too high. The cup should sit on the lower half of the bust so the clasp can lift.
- Not cleaning it. Adhesive picks up skin oils. Clean it after each wear (see how to clean a sticky bra).
What to wear with a sticky bra
Backless dresses, halter tops, strapless and off-shoulder styles, plunging necklines and open-side tops. If a bra band or strap would show, a sticky bra is the answer. If your outfit already works with a bra and you just want more shape, push-up inserts are the better pick. Not sure? Take the 20-second quiz.
